Shredd’n Gnar at Joffre Shoulder

Once again it all started with an Olympic driving permit.

So Bram and I decided to head out for some tree skiing since the weather was forecasted to be cloudy with sunny patches. In order to escape the warm temperatures in low elevations, we headed up the Duffey lake road. We skinned up Joffre Shoulder up to tree line in white out conditions. Due to lack of motivation, we decided to ski down. The first 200 vertical meters were nice to ski but then we hit coastal concrete. It was pretty hard to ski and rather annoying. At the logging road, we started skinning up again. At tree line we continued on to get at least some elevation. After another 100 meters, the clouds slowly got thinner and soon we were standing in plain sun light. It was an amazing play of clouds.

Whistler with Nicki and the gang

Last Sunday, I drove up to Whistler to meet with Nicki and go skiing. It was quite a hassle to get up to Whistler because of the Olympics but finally, we met at 8.40 am in the Village. First we headed up Whistler Mountain and skied the musical bumps. Later we took Peak2Peak chair to ski Blackcomb mountain.
It was a gorgeous day with amazing views and really nice skiing. And due to the Olympics and the hassle getting up, there were no line ups at all. That’s the way I like resort skiing.

Rainbow Mountain – Schralp the Gnar

Last Saturday, Sky and I headed out for Rainbow Mountain. Despite the vague weather forecast we had sun almost throughout the whole day. Sky’s trip report can be found here and I finally managed to upload some new pictures. It has been forever since I last posted pictures….

First snow at sea level

Today it snowed in Vancouver for the first time this winter. So winter finally arrived…

All that’s left to say is ‘welcome to Vancouver, winter’.

Skiing Cerise Creek

On Saturday, Bram, Sky and I headed off towards Duffey lake area. We started from Cerise creek parking and skinned up the clear cut. At the end, pretty much where winter and summer trail split, we skinned up eastwards towards the ridge of Vantage peak. Due to the amount of new snow, trail breaking was hard work. We started with some wet powder on a rain crust but around 1500 vm the crust vanished and we were left with fresh powder. Further up the ridge we started skiing down through chest deep powder. At our turning point we had about 2 m of snow. In total, we got three runs in. The best runs of the season.
